Mathew Dickey (Mat)

I am based in Taranaki, and have developed young horses with my family since a young age.  It is a team effort, and I am very lucky to have such a supportive family.
To produce a horse from having never had a rider on their back, to competing at the top level in jumping is the most rewarding journey I have been on.
The saddle is the primary connection between horse and rider, and has to give a perfect feel for both!  The new NSC jumping saddle is delivering this perfect connection, providing me with the most balanced ride I have experienced.

“The team at NSC are geniuses at getting a perfect fitting saddle customised to each horse. This allows my horses to jump in a natural shape, and gives an unbelievably stable feel for the rider. A huge factor in my teams success this season”

German Friendships Competition
In 2007 I competed in Germany at the ‘German Friendships’ Competition.  This competition consisted of riders from over 35 countries.  A German rider and I were a team, and I was given a horse to ride at the competition.  Our team was placed third overall.  I was one of the top placed riders from outside of Germany.

2013/14 Memorable Achievements
Selling Kiwi Guard left a big hole in my team for the 2013/2014 season, but I am bringing on a new, young team that I am very excited about.

Selection in the NZ World University Equestrian Championships Team (travelling to Abu Dhabi in November) is a highlight of my season, and a competition I am very excited about.

Winning the 6YO title class at the series final on Quango.  This horse also won the 5YO series final class last year.

Being sponsored a new NSC saddle that is both a dream to ride in, and actually fits the horses!

8YO Kiwi Rock
Competing between 1.30m and 1* Grand Prix level.
I broke this horse in as a 3YO and have produced him through the grades.  Bred by Fernhill stud.

6YO Quango
An exciting horse for the future, by Quantum out of a Valiant mare.  This horse will compete in the 7YO classes next season. Purchased as a 5YO.

5YO Concorde by Caballo out of a Lio Caylon mare (bred by Butch and Lu Thomas) – Concorde is a horse for the future. The most potential of all my horses, but will likely take the most time to produce.  Purchased as a 4YO.

5YO Kiwi Monarch – By Kiwi Emillion.  I have broken this horse in, but he had an injury last season.  I am currently bringing this lovely horse back into work.  Purchased as a 2YO.

3YO Astek Vanquish – A huge 3YO by Voltaire II.  I have been slowly breaking this horse in.
